Joey tells Willie: Explain before you complain

Comedian Joey de Leon on Thursday scored Willie Revillame, host of the ABS-CBN variety show "Wowowee", for resorting to personal attacks to dodge questions about alleged cheating in the program's game segment.

"Explain before you complain," De Leon said several times, even prompting the Eat Bulaga live audience to recite the line.

De Leon took the Broadway Centrum stage to himself for 15 minutes, choosing his words carefully and deliberately veering away from mentioning Revillame and "Wowowee."

It was very clear, however, that De Leon was taking aim at Revillame, whom the former said should "learn how to cry with tears."

Revillame earlier unloaded an emotional message over "Wowowee," wherein he expressed bitterness over how De Leon allegedly branded him as a cheat. His voice was full of rancor, but indeed no tears were shed.

Before any personal attacks are made, De Leon said Revillame should first explain the alleged "irregularities" in the "Wowowee" segment.

De Leon said he was not accusing Revillame and the program of "cheating," insisting that what he knew about the August 20 incident on "Wowowee" was limited to what he saw over video sharing website YouTube and various text messages.

In the controversial video, Revillame was seen pulling out the cover of a box to supposedly reveal the number "2" hidden in it, which a contestant was not able to pick during the game.

A number "0" instead popped out. Revillame quipped that he was holding the actual number "2" in his hands before pulling out from behind the box another cardboard containing the number.

ABS-CBN Network already issued a statement over the incident, which it said was an "honest mistake" that happened due to a "mechanical glitch" during the reveal portion.

Joey Marquez guilty of graft, posts bail, to appeal Sandigan ruling

Former Parañaque mayor Joselito "Joey" Marquez on Thursday posted bail if P240,000 and said that he will file an appeal after he and three co-accused were convicted of graft by the Sandiganbayan.

The bail was posted hours after it was learned that the Sandiganbayan Fourth Division had sentenced Marquez to up to 50 years imprisonment over the anomalous procurement of brooms worth over P2.9 million, which the Commission on Audit discovered were overpriced by P462,708.

The brooms were purchased from January 1996 to September 1997 during Marquez's tenure as Parañaque mayor.

In a 30-page decision, the graft court ruled that Marquez and three other former city officials caused undue injury to the government because of the anomalous deal.

The three former city officials who were also found guilty are Silvestre de Leon (city treasurer), Marilou Tanael (city accountant), and Ofelia Caunan (officer-in-charge, general services section).

Marquez and the three co-accused were ordered to each post P90,000 bail bonds, as well as P150,000 additional cash bonds.

They were instructed to reimburse the P462,708, or the deal's overpriced value.

Burglars break into Rufa Mae Quinto’s house

Rufa Mae Quinto became the latest victim of burglary as she lost valuable properties estimated at P2 million. According to Rufa Mae, intruders entered her house inside an exclusive subdivision in Quezon City. One of the robbers proceeded to her room where she was sound asleep and quickly stole her belongings.

Stolen from her were a watch worth P1.2 million, a laptop, and valuables found inside her bag. Rufa Mae had already reported the burglary to the police. She begged off, however, from divulging any information that would preempt the investigation. The number of burglars who barged inside her house remains unclear to the reporters.

Although Rufa Mae cried the whole day after her traumatic experience, she reminds herself that she can always recoup the stolen amount, and that being alive is still the most important thing.

Ramon Zamora dies of heart attack

Ramon Zamora, popularly known as the “Bruce Lee of the Philippines” and noted for imitating German words, passed away last night. He was 72.

Zamora rose from the ranks as a stuntman of LVN Pictures to become a popular comedian, dancer, choreographer and producer. He starred in films like Return of the Dragon, Ang Mahiwagang Daigdig ni Pedro Penduko, Bruce Liit and others.

Zamora’s son Bryan says his father fell after taking a bath at home and was rushed to the Marikina Valley Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival. It was his second heart attack, the first having occurred two years ago.

“During one of our last conversations, my dad said he was already tired. He also expressed his wish for a burial (versus a cremation) and said no one should cry at his wake. He wanted everyone there to be happy,” adds Bryan.

Zamora coined the word “Esprakenheit” and was the second actor to portray Pedro Penduko, after the late Efren Reyes and before Janno Gibbs and Matt Evans. Among his last TV appearances were in the ABS-CBN teleserye Maging Sino Ka Man, Your Song and Maalaala Mo Kaya. He was also included in the upcoming ABS-CBN show The Wedding.

Zamora is survived by his wife Jojo and six children. His remains lie at Marian Memorial Chapel in Antipolo. Interment will be on Saturday, Sept. 1 at the Loyola Memorial Park Marikina.

Owen Wilson Suicide Attempt!!!!!

Owen Wilson’s emergency hospitalization on Sunday was the result of a suicide attempt. Sources said Wilson sliced his left wrists and took an indeterminate amount of pills. He was discovered by his brother Andrew who summoned help. Police responded to a 911 call from Wilson’s house in Los Angeles around noon on Sunday.

Owen has now been transferred from St. John’s to another Los Angeles area hospitaland is in stable condition at the moment. His brothers Andrew and Luke are with him.

Paul Alvarez Hits Gretchen Malalad

Former PBA player Paul Alvarez threw an elbow at ABS-CBN news reporter Gretchen Malalad’s face as she was trying to interview the taxi driver who was allegedly mauled earlier by the cager.

Malalad, a 2002 Binibining Pilipinas contestant as well as ex-Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition housemate, was able to hit Alvarez in the face in retaliation before police intervened. She happens to be a karate black belter as well.

Wholesome. That is what actress Ara Mina has become after the trend of sexy movies died a few years ago. But with her latest movie "Selda," Ara is reported to be going back to where she started — baring skin!

"I feel that I’ve been wholesome for a long, long time and I don’t know if I still remember how to do it," laughed Ara Mina. "I really asked myself if I still remember the love scenes I did in the past."

According to the director Paolo Villaluna, she really had Ara Mina in mind for the female lead of "Selda."

"During our casting stage I asked who was really a good actress of this generation who could bare a little and at the same time has the prestige factor needed. We thought that Ara Mina can be the partner of Sid Lucero..." he said.

"Selda" is Ara Mina’s first independent movie and she is excited about it. For her, it’s a challenging endeavor after spending most her time acting on television and performing in concerts abroad. "Who knows, I could do more daring stuff than what the director wanted... I really missed doing movies. Last year I didn’t have time to do movies and I missed acting to the max! I’m very happy with this challenging role," she exclaimed.

But how far would she go in terms of baring and being daring again?

"I have no problem baring because I’ve done that before. If it will be artistically done then why not?" laughed Ara. "But if it’s not needed, then I don’t have to bare."

Faith Hill scolds audience member at concert

During Tim McGraw and Faith Hill's Louisiana concert over the weekend, a fan apparently got a little out of control and grabbed McGraw's groin area. Hill scolded the individual in front of thousands saying: “Somebody needs to teach you some class, my friend. You don’t go grabbin’ somebody else’s, somebody’s husband’s balls, you understand me? That’s very disrespectful.”
