MANILA, Philippines -- Veteran actor Ace Vergel, Ace York Aguilar in real life, died at 3:18 a.m. at the Chinese General Hospital in Sta. Cruz, Manila. Saturday after suffering from a heart attack.
Vergel, who earned the reputation as the original "Bad Boy of Philippine Movies," was on January 22, 1952 to actress Alicia Vergel and actor Cesar Ramirez. Sister Beverly Vergel is also an actress. He was 55.

Iwa Moto is happy that her StarStruck batchmate Jackie Rice has decided to revive her showbiz career. "Good!" she exclaimed when PEP caught up with her backstage at SOP last Sunday, October 28.
Iwa and Jackie both gained popularity when they joined GMA-7's talent-search reality show, StarStruck, during its 2005-2006 season. Jackie eventually won the top prize while Iwa was named the first-runner up. Fame and projects quickly followed for both Jackie and Iwa. But while the two neophytes were enjoying their newfound popularity, they were also caught off-guard by the responsibilities expected of them as public figures.
Iwa and Jackie were hounded by intrigues, often related to their alleged insubordinate attitude towards work and towards their co-workers. LOS ANGELES, California (AP) -- Robert Goulet, the handsome, big-voiced baritone whose Broadway debut in "Camelot" launched an award-winning stage and recording career, has died at the age of 73.
He had been awaiting a lung transplant at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being found last month to have a rare form of pulmonary fibrosis. Goulet had remained in good spirits even as he waited for the transplant, said Vera Goulet, his wife of 25 years.
In an earlier post, it was reported here by way of Celebrity Gossip that the Heroes star will be playing the legendary Miz Wendy O. Williams, the former Plasmatics frontwoman who committed suicide in ‘98.

In Halle Berry's guesting on Jay Leno's Tonight show, she made an anti-semitic remark over the size of Jewish people’s noses. One of their topics was about People’s champ Manny Pacquiao. In Korina Sanchez's commentary, a lady reporter was requested by Manny Pacquiao’s camp to be terminated from her work. The reason was for releasing a survey during the last campaign period where the result was his opponent General Santos Rep. Darlene Custodio was leading.
If this is true, what happened to the kind-hearted and humble Manny Pacquiao? Has fame and money corrupted his old good self?
Aside from this issue, he snubbed Manila Mayor Alfredo Lim in his welcome parade in Manila. Snubbing the Manila Mayor is like snubbing the people of Manila. If he is politicking, it’s a bad step that he committed. He should have at least the courtesy to the Mayor.

So it was no surprise he went with Solar Sports' and GMA's offer to televise his latest match after having been with ABS-CBN for a long time. The rumored P80 million package deal might have helped him decide as well.
Incidentally that telecast turned off and tuned out a lot of would-be viewers with excessive commercials. GMA reportedly conveniently back out of the industry organization KBP so as not to be restricted by the imposed maximum number of commercials. So the telecast turned out to be a telecast of commercials interspersed with 3 minutes of evasive boxing every now and then.
More significantly with his snub of the Manila parade, Manny did not only snubbed Mayor Lim but snubbed the entire people of Manila. Manny is an adopted son of Manila, with his adoption decreed by then Mayor Atienza, a bitter rival of Mayor Lim. Lim reclaimed his old position by routing Mayor Atienza's son Ali in the last election.

Ticket buyers may be annoyed by the $5 or more in convenience and delivery fees tacked on to every ticket ordered online or over the phone, but they've proven to be a gold mine for Ticketmaster.
Regulatory filings show that Ticketmaster's revenues jumped 14% to $1.1 billion in 2006 and generated almost a 25% operating profit margin.
Live Nation, whose 160 venues include House of Blues and Fillmore locations, Nikon at Jones Beach in New York and London's Wembley Arena, currently is Ticketmaster's largest single generator of ticketing fees. But Live Nation has signaled it wants to bring the fee revenue in-house when its Ticketmaster contract expires in 2008 for most of its locations and in 2009 at the House of Blues venues.

WELLINGTON, New Zealand -- Tiger Woods' caddie Steve Williams has given more than NZ$1 million to a New Zealand children's hospital. The donation will help fund Auckland's Starship Hospital's rebuilding and expansion of its oncology and hematology wards.
The contribution was made through the Steve Williams Foundation, set up in 2001, which has traditionally supported junior golf and motor racing projects. Williams has been caddie to Woods, the world golf No.1, since 1999, and is one of the highest-earning New Zealand sportsmen. He is also a New Zealand speedway motor racing champion. (AP)

Actor Kiefer Sutherland pleaded no contest Tuesday to a misdemeanor drunk driving charge stemming from his arrest two weeks ago in West Los Angeles.
Sutherland, who plays counter-terrorism agent Jack Bauer on the popular Fox TV show "24," was scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 21 in Los Angeles County Superior Court.
The Los Angeles city attorney's office, as part of a plea deal with Sutherland, recommended that he be sentenced to 48 days in jail. The sentence would reflect 30 days for the misdemeanor charge and 18 days for violating probation on a separate 2004 DUI case. But Sutherland could be sentenced to as much as a year if the judge who took over the case Tuesday, Stuart M. Rice, rejects the plea deal.

Kristine Hermosa remained in shock Monday, a day after figuring in a traffic accident that killed a 16-year-old boy in Maragondon, Cavite.
Hermosa had just come from a taping when her vehicle, a Hyundai SUV, collided with a motorcycle that had cut into their lane in an attempt to overtake their vehicle.
Killed in the accident was JR Davis while his girlfriend, Maricel de Guzman, had fractures on both feet. She is currently recuperating in a hospital in Naic, Cavite.
The incident happened before 2 p.m. along Governor's Drive in Garita Village, Maragondon. Hermosa's driver, Francisco Manarang Jr., was immediately arrested by the police and detained at the Maragondon police station.

A 16-year old boy died and his companion was hospitalized after figuring in an accident with the vehicle of Kristine Hermosa. The fatality identified only as Junior died on the spot while his companion Maricel de Guzman, 18, was rushed to the Naic Hospital.
The incident happened 1:35 p.m. Sunday on Governor’s Drive in Garita B village, Maragondon, Cavite, based on the information given by Senior Superintendent Fidel Posadas, head of the Cavite Provincial Police Office.
Posadas said Hermosa was on board her 2007 Hyundai SUV Santa Fe(ZKU-327) driven by Francisco Manarang Jr, 32, when the vehicle hit the Honda motorcycle of the two victims.
Posadas said Junior was driving the Honda but doubted that the latter has a license being a minor.

Britney lost custody because she ignored L.A. County Commissioner Scott Gordon at every turn. Starting from last month, when the commissioner ordered her to do a number of things in order to maintain 50/50 custody, she didn't do any of them.
Spears was ordered to meet with a drug counselor, submit to drug testing, enroll in parenting class, and sign the judge's order - all of which she didn't do.
So the commissioner prohibited both Spears and her husband from driving their children unless they had a valid California driver's license. Gordon was pissed today when TMZ posted a video of Spears driving her kids around Malibu.

Marceau's former assistant Emmanuel Vacca said the peformer died Saturday in Paris, but gave no details.
In one of Marceau's most poignant and philosophical acts, "Youth, Maturity, Old Age, Death," Marceau wordlessly showed the passing of an entire life in just minutes. He took his art to stages across the world, performing in Asia, Europe and the United States, his "second country," where he first performed in 1955 and returned every two years.
The son of a butcher, the mime was born Marcel Mangel on March 22, 1923, in Strasbourg, France. His father Charles, a baritone with a love of song, introduced his son to the world of music and theater at an early age. The boy was captivated by the silent film stars of the era: Chaplin, Buster Keaton and the Marx brothers.
Marcel's life as a performer began with the liberation of Paris from the Nazis. He enrolled in Charles Dullin's School of Dramatic Art, studying with the renowned mime Etienne Decroux.
The on-stage persona Bip was born in 1947, a sad-faced double whose eyes lit up with childlike wonder as he discovered the world. Bip was a direct descendant of the 19th century harlequin, but his clownish gestures were inspired in part by Chaplin and Keaton.
Single-handedly, Marceau revived the art of mime, which dates to antiquity and continued until the 19th century through the Italian Commedia dell'Arte, or improvised theater.
Marceau also made film appearances. The most famous was Mel Brooks' 1976 film "Silent Movie" — he had the only speaking line, "Non!"
As he aged, Marceau kept performing, never losing the agility that made him famous. A perforated ulcer nearly killed him in the Soviet Union in December 1985. He was rushed home to Paris in critical condition, but bounced back to the stage five months later.
Marceau was married three times and had four children. Funeral arrangements were not immediately known.

O.J. Simpson has been officially charged with several felony counts by the Clark County District Attorney. Simpson and three other defendants have been charged each with one count each of conspiracy to commit a crime, conspiracy to commit kidnapping, conspiracy to commit robbery, first degree kidnapping with use of a deadly weapon, burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon, robbery with use of a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon and coercion with with use of a deadly weapon.

Yahoo! recently conducted a poll in which they queried singles about celebrities they would most like to date. Topping the list for most desired female was Jessica Alba. This isn’t really much of a surprise. The sex kitten was voted In 2006 No. 1 by the readers of Askmen.com on their list of 99 Most Desirable Women, No. 2 in 2007 in Maxim Magazine’s roundup of their Top 100, and the winner of FHM’s 2007 Sexiest Woman in the World.
Jennifer Aniston, Queen Latifah, Jessica Simpson, tennis beauty Maria Sharapova, Sandra Oh and Top Chef vixen Padma Lakshmi were also top picks in the female category.
Hottie George Clooney garnered the most votes on the male list. Matthew McConaughey came in as a close second. Other stars who find themselves the object of desire by female singles were hip hop performer Kanye West, Latin singer Ricky Martin, baseball star Derek Jeter and tennis pro Andy Roddick.
